It is with great pleasure that Nanda\Hobbs Contemporary announces the representation of artist Paul Ryan.
Paul Ryan’s powerful swaths of colour and texture coupled with compositional brilliance has seen him become one of the most sought after contemporary painters in the country.
He has been a finalist 13 times in the coveted Archibald prize, 4 times in the Wynne and 6 times in the Sulman Prize. In recent weeks Ryan was runner up in the Paddington Art Prize.
Ryan is an artist who challenges the way we view our landscape and our history. He is willing to discuss in paint uncomfortable moments in our shared history as part of the process of developing a stronger society. His evocative technique has influenced a generation of artists. In 2015 a multi-panelled portrait of Noah Taylor cemented his place as agent provocateur in Australian painting. View artworks
We look forward to Paul Ryan’s first solo exhibition at Nanda\Hobbs in October 2017.
