Biography
Lives and works in Wedderburn, nsw, Australia
Suzanne Archer (b. Guildford, Surrey, England) is one of Australia’s most compelling interdisciplinary artists, renowned for her commanding investigation of landscape, mortality and the human condition within a practice that spans over more than five decades.
Living and working in Wedderburn, NSW since the mid-1960s, Archer has forged a significant career, producing a prolific body of work that moves fluidly between painting, sculpture, drawing, installation and printmaking. Archer’s art is grounded in a deeply personal response to place. The bushland surrounding her studio and its cycles of life, decay and regeneration, have long served as a primary catalyst in her practice. From it, she weaves layered imagery, memories, and collected fragments—amongst a landscape that continues to fuel her mark-making and symbolic vocabularies.
Suzanne Archer’s richly layered paintings and sculptures are steeped in the history and tradition of art-making yet exude a thoroughly contemporary edge. They move beyond mere representation, enveloping the viewer in an immersive, introspective world—an encounter that is at once intimate and elemental; unflinching, restless, and profoundly alive.
