This work is a collaboration between Adnate and Anangu artist Valerie Brumby from the Mutitjulu community at the base of Uluru. The portrait depicts a local Anangu girl, painted by Adnate following time spent in community.

Surrounding the portrait are painted elements by Valerie Brumby that reference Country, story and cultural continuity. Her mark-making situates the figure within the red desert landscape, drawing on Anangu knowledge and lived connection to place. Rather than framing the subject as separate fromCountry, the composition weaves portrait and land together, reflecting identity as something shaped through environment, culture and community.

Together, the work speaks to collaboration as a shared act of respect and exchange — where portraiture becomes a meeting point between people, place and enduring cultural knowledge.
