Newcastle artist, Brett McMahon covers the current edition of GALAH. magazine with his beautiful 2025 work, Wildflower 3.
The accompanying article titled 'And the the colour came flooding back' by John McDonald explores the artist's new work with its "resurgent confidence and a rediscovery of nature". He compares his current work to the almost exclusively black and white paintings and installations from 2015 to 2022, the "spiritual antithesis of the work he is doing today". McMahon credits his move back to Newcastle (from Sydney) and a new engagement with the environment—especially Awabakal Nature Reserve, as his chief inspiration for his wildflower and tree studies and "the colour flooding back".
