Benjamin Aitken
Current viewing_room
Melbourne born artist Ben Aitken’s abstract, text-based paintings and portraits reveal a powerful dialogue between language, memory and lived experience. Through a raw and intuitive visual language, Aitken transforms personal histories into compelling conversations on identity, resilience and the human condition.
In 2018 Aitken won the Tony Fini Foundation Artist Prize at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Aitken has been a finalist in multiple leading art prizes including the Archibald Prize 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and in 2020 was also a finalist in the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The portrait of Fiona Lowry was his 2019 Archibald finalist entry. Aitken has exhibited internationally, with shows in Korea, Bangkok, New Zealand, and the UK. His work is held in numerous public and private collections around the world.
