Brett McMahon is an Australian artist based in Newcastle NSW who makes paintings, drawings and sculptural installations which uncover forms, structures and storylines in the natural and built environments.

McMahon’s works are characterized by robust compositions that resonate with the world, offering distilled and poetic responses to his surroundings. His use of bold lines, geometric shapes, and a keen eye for spatial relationships defines his unique approach to abstraction.

Art critic Sebastian Smee has written:

‘McMahon’s works are distilled, poetic responses to the environment around him. They are ambitious in the highest degree, but also, aesthetically, a model of restraint and humility. He has an uncanny ability to make his materials resonate with the environment around him. His work has the clarity and purity of a tuning fork’

Brett has held over 30 solo exhibitions in commercial and public galleries and his works have been collected in public, private and corporate collections in Australia, Asia, Europe and the US.
