Salon des Refusés exhibited from 9 May – 26 July 2026 at S.H. Ervin Gallery
The Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes at the Art Gallery of New South Wales are some of the most highly regarded art prizes in Australia. This year Nanda\Hobbs is honoured to have numerous artists selected as finalists in all three prizes, as well as being included in the Salon des Refusés which is on display at the S.H. Ervin Gallery.
We are thrilled to have three artists selected in the 2026 Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW — James Powditch, Loribelle Spirovski and Caroline Zilinsky.
All three artists are well known to the Prize. Loribelle is a second-time finalist and was winner of the People's Choice award last year, for her finger painting of yidaki virtuoso William Barton. James is celebrating his tenth Archibald selection alongside 6 Sulman and 12 Wynne Prize finalist selections. For Caroline, this is her third time in the Archibald Prize since 2022.
First Nations Australian artist Selma Couldhard has been selected as a Wynne Prize finalist at the Art Gallery of New South Wales for the first time with her beautiful work Watarrka (King Canyon Area). Alongside Coulthard, Philjames, (a four-time Wynne Prize finalist) celebrates 2nd selection in the Sulman Prize.
In addition, four Nanda\Hobbs artists have been selected as finalists in the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales — Suzanne Archer, Lottie Consalvo and James Drinkwater.
Suzanne Archer, winner of the 1994 Wynne Prize is celebrating her 9th Sulman Prize selection this year. For Lottie Consalvo, this is her first time in the prize and James Drinkwater's second time as a Sulman finalist. All outstanding paintings—congratulations to Suzanne, Lottie and James.
Known as the alternative to the Archibald and Wynne Prizes, this year’s selection for the Salon des Refusés features a stellar line-up of some of the most significant names in contemporary Australian art— including four Nanda\Hobbs artists.
Jun Chen, Jonathan Dalton and David Fairbairn are featured for their finalist works in the Archibald Prize while Kathryn Ryan is featured for her finalist painting in the Wynne prize for landscape painting.
