Paul Ryan selected as a finalist in the 2019 Moran Portrait Prize

Congratulations to Paul Ryan for his selection as a finalist in the 2019 Moran National Portrait Prize. 

He was one of 30 finalists, selected from a pool of 139 semi-finalists. Ryan's portrait is of actor Noah Taylor, titled Colonial Boy.

The Moran Portrait Prize is Australia's most valuable art prize with $150,000 awarded to the winner. Other semi-finalists included Dee SmartPaul RyanMathew Lynn and James Drinkwater. The winner will be announced on 30 October.

Jun Chen painting sells at double the estimate, Shapiro Auctioneers 24 Sep

The AFR's Salesroom has reported that a painting by Jun Chen sold for $18,750 at Shapiro's sale of Art and Objects from the Estate of Ray Hughes on Tuesday 24 September against estimates of $8000 to $10,000. It's the second highest price recorded at auction for Chen and is 25% higher than the current gallery price for a work of a similar size.
