Jonathan Dalton
Dianne Gall
Nanda\Hobbs is delighted to be participating in Melbourne Art Fair’s 2020 edition. Scheduled to open from 3 - 7 June, but rescheduled to February 2021, MAF have released a online viewing room to showcase represented galleries.
Nanda\Hobbs presents two exceptional artists, both with a focus on theatrical realiism—Jonathan Dalton and Dianne Gall.
Jonathan Dalton’s practice is encapsulated by delicate observation of nuanced drama and subtle symbolism. Each piece is an expression of a charged moment—often ambiguous, frequently mysterious, always refusing to submit to closure. The outcome is layer after layer of paint, deftly and meticulously applied, creating an image with depth and theatricality that elevates it beyond a photorealist frame of reference. This exhibition painted for Melbourne Art Fair extends Dalton’s investigation into the still life genre—Dalton has been a three-time consecutive finalist in the Archibald Prize and has since his first solo 2016 exhibition in Australia become one of the most sought after contemporary painters in the country.
Dianne Gall is an artist whose realism is evidenced in both the meticulous detail of her paintings and in the attributes of her subjects- glamorous femme fatales. Inspired by Film Noir, Gall evokes a bygone era with all its mystery, intrigue and psychological interplay. Her women are strident and powerful even in uncertainty.
