Suzanne Archer is an intriguing artist with a multidisciplinary approach. Her vigorously conceptual paintings weave deep personal belief systems into landscapes.
Born in Surrey, England, Archer has lived and worked in Australia since the mid-1960's and is recognised as one of this country's foremost artists. Her work is housed in major collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, as well as significant regional and tertiary institutions. Her unique vision is shaped by her extensive global travels and residences around the world, as well as her ongoing and profound connection to the Australian landscape.
Archer has been the recipient of the Wynne Prize (1994), the Dobell Prize (2010), the Kedumba Drawing Prize (2010) and the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (2018). Major survey exhibitions have been shown at the Macquarie University Art Gallery, Sydney (2016) Campbelltown Arts Centre, Campbelltown (2019) and the Orange Regional Gallery (2023).
Suzanne Archer’s richly layered paintings and sculptures are steeped in the history and tradition of art-making yet exude a thoroughly contemporary edge. They move beyond the mere representational experience- rather enveloping the viewer in an introspective and immersive world.
