I have explored organic mark making; all the shapes and patterns are extracted from my observations.
Zoë MacDonell delves into what it means to exist in the enormity of the universe. This cosmic perspective has been informed by her extensive travels—in Africa, Antarctica, Europe, Asia and the Americas—and has provided her with the source material for her unique works, referencing non-site-specific landscapes.
Her practice of layering, collaging, painting and drawing on swathes of silk has provided the perfect medium and framework for her to render her vision. Long strands of interwoven collage create string-like structures that are richly layered in tonality. The work expresses, with subtlety but also great deftness, basic human emotions ranging from haunting dreams to ecstasy.
As it's becoming increasingly tricky to get out and about at the moment, we have been delving into the stockroom for interesting artworks that won't break the bank for your home collection—or indeed your brand new "home" office!
